Nina has been feeling more like herself recently. It's taken a few weeks of self care, a failed waffle experiment, many naps with Khitka, a history lesson from Kade, quality time with friends, and a few mildly distressing conversations with alternate versions of people that she knows – but she's okay. She'll be much better once Shen Yuan is back of course, but for now, she'll do what she does best and weather the storm.

There are few things she's considering in her mind but right now, she's flipping through some language books with Khitka curled around the back of her neck, dozing.

"Oh, the entire point was that it doesn't suit him at all. Maybe something that fits him more for next time."

[ravkanwitch]

"Hm. Is he from something? Your world?" Jared looks like he could be from Paris. Maybe.

[futaille]

"I think Dionysus said he was an actor, but from well after my time. As far as I'm concerned, he's for dressing up and hiding behind things around the house to startle people."

[ravkanwitch]

Nina giggles. "I'm surprised Gu Xiang hasn't lopped his head off yet. Who's the next victim?"

[futaille]

"I don't know! It's not targeted. Fully opportunistic!"

[ravkanwitch]

She shakes her head. "What alternate version of you came in, by the way? I wasn't affected but I did meet a couple others who were."

[futaille]

"Oh. It was a me from almost two hundred years in my future."

[ravkanwitch]

Her eyes widen. "What's it like in the future? Or wait -- do you remember anything from this, even?"

[futaille]

"I remember... bits and pieces, like it was a strange dream I had."

[ravkanwitch]

"What was the other you like?"

[futaille]

"As far as I can recall, his personality was a lot like mine? His experiences, though, are so different that I can only really even understand parts of the parts that I remember."

[ravkanwitch]

"That makes sense. I wonder what I would be like 200 years in the future." She frowns slightly. It isn't unheard of, that her lifespan could be that long. She would just have to use the Small Science more than she's doing so at the moment.

[futaille]

He smiles a little. "It also makes me wonder what I might have been like two hundred years ago. A strange time, that would have been."

[ravkanwitch]

"Kade was teaching me a little bit about the history of Earth! But it was a bit haphazard... He's not a history teacher. Were things pretty developed two hundred years ago?"

[futaille]

"That depends on how you'd define pretty developed, I suppose. A lot of the most famous places in Paris were being built at the time."

[ravkanwitch]

"The Eiffel Tower?" She asks, as that's what most books mention when they mention buildings in Paris. "Was that one of them?"

[futaille]

"The what?" Clearly there are still some very famous places in Paris yet to be built.

[ravkanwitch]

"The big metal tower. It looks like a-- um," she thinks briefly, trying to come up with a frame of reference that they both understand, finally resorting to making an A shape with her hands. "It looks like this shape. It's in all the modern pictures of Paris."

[futaille]

"Probably after me, then! I'll have to look up some pictures of it."

[ravkanwitch]

"We can go to the library and I can show you, if you want," she says. For some reason, everyone keeps talking to her about Parisian pastries lately. She would love to visit Paris. For now, she eyes Jared again. "You know what I think he needs? That wouldn't suit him at all? A black leather jacket."

[futaille]

"Black leather jacket. Excellent. I'll get one of those for the next time I change him. And I'd love to see the tower."

[ravkanwitch]

"And ...sunglasses?" Nina says, with an eyebrow arch, as if to say are you picking up what I'm putting down. She stirs to stand up and it's also at this time when Khitka is disturbed from his slumber and stretches, uncurling from where he was snuggled against her neck with a big yawn.

[futaille]

He brightens as she mentions sunglasses. "Oh! Yes! Yes, absolutely, that will be his next ensemble." And as Khitka finally moves with Nina's shifting, Grantaire actually notices him. "Who is this fine creature?"

[ravkanwitch]

"And a red wig-- This is Khitka!" She extends her arm towards Grantaire and Khitka takes it as a signal to walk down the arm to check him out, whiskers twitching in interest.

"Good day, Khitka! Aren't you quite the well-behaved one?"
